Aluminium terrace enclosures in Cádiz

We enclose your terrace with made-to-measure aluminium frames and glass, with a thermal break and double glazing if you want to use it as an extra room. We make and install them in El Puerto de Santa María and across the province of Cádiz.

Short answer: an aluminium enclosure closes in your terrace with aluminium frames and glass and turns it into an extra room in your home. A basic sliding system costs between €250 and €400/m² installed; with a thermal break (known in Spain as RPT) and double glazing, between €350 and €550/m² or more. With a thermal break, it is the option that best insulates the terrace from cold, noise and rain.

What is an aluminium terrace enclosure?

An aluminium terrace enclosure works like a large window: each glass panel has an aluminium frame running all the way round it, with seals and hardware, and it opens by sliding or swinging, depending on the system. It is made to fit the opening and anchored to the floor, the ceiling and the sides.

Of all the ways to enclose a terrace, it is the one that insulates best, especially with a thermal break, which is why the terrace starts to work as a proper room. It suits you if you want to:

  • Extend your living room or kitchen into the terrace space.
  • Gain an extra room: a study, dining room, playroom or utility room.
  • Insulate a cold or noisy terrace, one that faces north or overlooks a busy street.

Strugal or Finstral frames, powder-coated in your colour

For aluminium enclosures and windows we work with systems from manufacturers such as Strugal or Finstral: from a simple sliding window to keep the wind out to thermally broken ranges that insulate as well as the rest of the house.

The frames are powder-coated in whichever colour best suits your façade, or in the one your community of owners has approved. Measuring and installation are carried out by our own team.

What types of aluminium enclosure are there?

They differ in how the panels open: sliding is the most affordable, casement and tilt-and-turn seal more tightly, and folding leaves the opening clearest.

The most common

Sliding

The panels slide along tracks and take up no space when opened, so they fit almost any terrace. With two tracks you can open half the width; with three or more, a little more. Guide price for a basic version: €250 – €400/m².

Better insulation

Casement or hinged

The panels swing on hinges, like the windows in your home, and close against seals, so they insulate and keep water out better than a sliding system. The trade-off is that an open panel takes up space inside.

Request a quote
Safe ventilation

Tilt-and-turn

They open like a casement window and, in addition, the panel tilts inwards at the top so you can ventilate without draughts while the window stays secure. Very practical if the terrace is going to be a bedroom or a study.

Widest opening

Folding or bi-fold

The panels fold up like a concertina and stack at one side, so they leave the opening clearer than any other aluminium system. They need more hardware and framing, and usually cost more than a sliding system.

Aluminium enclosure with or without a thermal break?

With a thermal break (RPT) if you are going to use the terrace as an extra room. If you only want to keep out the wind, rain and dust, a sliding system without a thermal break may be enough, and it costs less.

Aluminium conducts cold and heat very well. A thermal break is an insulating barrier inside the frame that separates its inner face from its outer face. Without one, the frame gets cold in winter and condensation forms on it easily; and if you also take out the door to the living room, the terrace becomes the coldest spot in the house.

Which glass should you choose for your terrace enclosure?

  • Double glazing with an insulating gap: two panes of glass separated by air or gas. It is the starting point for any enclosure that insulates.
  • Low-emissivity (low-E) glass: an invisible coating that reduces heat loss in winter; worth having on north-facing terraces.
  • Solar-control glass: reflects some of the sun's rays and stops a south- or west-facing terrace from turning into an oven in summer.
  • Laminated safety glass: if it breaks, the pieces stay stuck to an interlayer. Recommended for full-height panels, on upper floors and where there are children; there is also an acoustic version.

The right combination depends on which way the terrace faces, the noise and how you will use it; we suggest one during the site visit. If you also want to replace the windows in your home, take a look at our page on subsidised window replacement.

Extras

Shutters, insect screens and other extras for your enclosure

Integrated roller shutter (built-in box)

The shutter box sits above the window, built into the enclosure. It gives you darkness and privacy, adds insulation and can be manual or motorised. Find out more about shutters.

Insect screens

Roller or sliding screens, built into the frame so that they are barely noticeable. Let fresh air in during the summer while keeping mosquitoes out.

Blinds and screens

If the enclosure faces south or west, a blind on the inside or a screen blind on the outside will block the afternoon sun. Take a look at our blinds.

Security locks

Multi-point locking hardware and lockable handles, useful on ground floors and in homes that are shut up for long periods.

How much does an aluminium enclosure cost in Cádiz?

A basic sliding aluminium enclosure costs between €250 and €400/m², and one with a thermal break and double glazing between €350 and €550/m² or more. These are 2026 market ranges with installation included; VAT and extras are itemised separately in your quote.

Aluminium enclosureGuide priceExample: a 4 x 2.5 m front (10 m²)
Basic sliding€250 – €400/m²€2,500 – €4,000
With a thermal break and double glazing€350 – €550/m² or more€3,500 – €5,500 or more

If you are given a price per linear metre, multiply it by the height of the opening to convert it to m² so that you can compare.

What pushes up the price of an aluminium enclosure?

  • Thermal break and glass: a thermally broken frame and double glazing raise the price, and low-E, solar-control or laminated glass adds a little more.
  • Opening system: casement, tilt-and-turn and folding systems need more hardware than a sliding one.
  • Size and shape: corners, L-shaped fronts, great heights and very wide panels.
  • Colour: special coatings or wood-effect finishes cost more than standard colours.
  • Extras and access: shutters, motors, insect screens, a penthouse without a goods lift or a floor that needs levelling.

You will find all the ranges in our guide prices and in the article on how much it costs to enclose a terrace. The exact quote, with a site visit and measuring, is free and with no obligation.

Before you decide

What are the pros and cons of enclosing your terrace with aluminium?

Advantages

  • It really insulates: with a thermal break and double glazing, it keeps out cold, heat and noise.
  • Water- and airtight, with seals and drainage built into the frame.
  • You gain a room that you can use all twelve months of the year.
  • Can be fitted with shutters, insect screens and lockable handles built into the frame.
  • Low maintenance: powder-coated aluminium does not corrode or need painting.

Drawbacks (and how we deal with them)

  • You lose the feeling of an open terrace: a two-panel sliding window only opens half the width. If you want to open it up completely in summer, you would be better off with frameless glass curtains.
  • More visible framing than glass curtains: every panel has its own frame.
  • It needs permission from the town hall and, in a block of flats, from the community of owners. Because it changes the façade more, it is usually a little harder to obtain than for glass curtains.
  • It can get hot in summer if it faces south or west; this is solved with solar-control glass, shutters or blinds.
  • It may change the floor area recorded in the Catastro (Spain's property register) if the terrace comes to count as enclosed floor space; it depends on the individual case.

Aluminium enclosure, glass curtains or a bioclimatic pergola with side enclosures?

It depends on how you will use it. Thermally broken aluminium turns the terrace into a room for all year round; glass curtains enclose it without losing the views; a bioclimatic pergola with side enclosures covers a porch or a garden that has no roof.

OptionInsulationOpening and viewsGuide priceSuits you if…
Aluminium enclosureHigh with a thermal break and double glazing: thermal and acousticPartial; visible frames on every panel€250 – €400/m² basic; €350 – €550/m² or more with a thermal breakYou want an extra, insulated room all year round
Frameless glass curtainsModerate: they keep out the wind and rainAlmost complete, with no vertical frames€200 – €450/m²You want to keep the views and open up the terrace in good weather
Bioclimatic pergola with side enclosuresLow: protects from sun and rain and, with side enclosures, from windLouvres that open to the sky and sides that retract€350 – €1,100/m², depending on featuresThe terrace has no roof and you need shade and shelter

Bear in mind: aluminium closes off the sides, but it needs a roof above it. On a balcony or under a concrete floor slab that is no problem; on a penthouse or an uncovered porch you need to add a fixed roof or a retractable roof.

When people talk about glass enclosures for terraces, they almost always mean aluminium or glass curtains. We compare the two point by point in our article on glass curtains vs aluminium enclosures.

Do I need permission to enclose my terrace with aluminium?

Yes, some kind of procedure is always needed. In Andalusia it is usually a declaración responsable (self-declaration) or a minor works licence (licencia de obra menor), depending on each town hall's bylaws; if the terrace becomes enclosed living space, some councils ask for a licence backed by technical documentation. It depends on your municipality.

In a block of flats you also need the agreement of the community of owners, because the enclosure changes the façade: Spain's Horizontal Property Act (Ley de Propiedad Horizontal) requires a vote in favour from three fifths of the owners, who must also represent three fifths of the ownership shares. If the community has an approved model of frame, colour and glass, sticking to it makes everything easier.

We advise you on the procedure and give you the technical description that councils usually ask for. More in our guide to permission for enclosing a terrace in Andalusia and enclosing a terrace in a block of flats.

What should an aluminium enclosure be like on the Cádiz coast?

It has to withstand the levante, the salt air and the sun. These are the details that make the difference:

  • A marine-grade powder coating and corrosion-resistant hardware and screws. On the seafront it is worth asking for a coating certified for coastal use, such as the Qualicoat Seaside label.
  • Well-designed drainage: when the levante brings wind-driven rain, the water is pushed against the enclosure, and the bottom frame has to channel it back outside.
  • Solid anchoring to firm points in the floor slab and walls, with panels and glass sized for the wind on exposed façades.

To make it last, all you need to do is rinse the frames and tracks with fresh water from time to time and clear away the sand. More in our guide on how to protect your terrace from the levante.

We install aluminium enclosures in El Puerto de Santa María, Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz, Chiclana, Puerto Real, San Fernando, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Rota and Chipiona as well as the rest of the province of Cádiz.

FAQ

Questions about aluminium enclosures

How much does it cost to enclose a terrace with aluminium?

A basic sliding aluminium enclosure costs between €250 and €400/m², and one with a thermal break and double glazing between €350 and €550/m² or more, including installation and excluding VAT. A 4 x 2.5 m front (10 m²) would come to between €2,500 and €4,000 with a basic sliding system and between €3,500 and €5,500 or more with a thermal break. See our guide prices.

Which is better, an aluminium enclosure or glass curtains?

It depends on how you will use it. Aluminium with a thermal break and double glazing insulates better against cold, heat and noise, and is more watertight: it is the option for gaining an extra room. Glass curtains win on views, open almost completely and change the façade less. We compare them in our article on glass curtains vs aluminium enclosures.

Is it worth paying more for a thermal break?

If the terrace is going to become part of the house, yes. Without a thermal break, the frame lets the cold and heat from outside through and condensation can appear on the frames; with a thermal break and double glazing, the enclosure insulates like one of the windows in your home. If you only want to keep out the wind and rain, a basic sliding system may be enough.

Do I need permission to put an aluminium enclosure on my terrace?

Yes. In Andalusia you usually need a declaración responsable (self-declaration) or a minor works licence, depending on your town hall's bylaws. In a block of flats you also need the agreement of the community of owners, because the enclosure changes the façade. We advise you on the procedure; there is more information in our guide to permission for enclosing a terrace in Andalusia.

Does aluminium stand up to salt air near the sea?

Yes, if the coating is good quality and suitable for a marine environment, and if the hardware and screws do not corrode. Powder-coated aluminium does not need painting: just rinse the frames and tracks with fresh water from time to time, more often on the seafront, and clear away the sand that the levante blows in so that the panels slide smoothly.

Can a terrace without a roof be enclosed with aluminium?

Yes, but the enclosure closes off the sides and needs a roof above it. On a penthouse or an uncovered porch it is combined with a fixed aluminium roof or with a retractable roof; another option is a bioclimatic pergola with side enclosures. During the visit we work out which one suits your terrace.
