Glass curtain installation in Cádiz

Enclosing terraces and porches is a practical, versatile way to make the most of these spaces all year round. It creates a sheltered, comfortable area where you can enjoy the outdoors whatever the weather.

Enclosures also extend the living space of your home or business, creating extra room for entertaining, relaxing or working. Their modular, frameless design makes them the preferred choice for improving the comfort and usability of any space.

Folding ONE

The folding glass curtain is the most common choice for enclosing terraces, balconies and porches. Its tempered glass panels, with no vertical frames, fold back and stack away completely; when closed, they keep out the wind and rain without losing the panoramic view.

Sliding RUN

The sliding glass curtain is the classic system for enclosing terraces without complicated building work: the tracks simply screw to the floor. Its tempered glass panels slide without turning, open with a single movement and adapt to different opening layouts.

Stacking BIG

The stacking glass curtain is the solution for large openings in restaurants, bar and restaurant terraces, shops and shopping centres. With no bottom profile, its panels stack away to leave a quick, fully open front with more ventilation and light, and they can also divide spaces or create private areas.

Your questions answered

Which type of glass curtain is best for my terrace?

For a home terrace, the most common glass curtain is the folding system (ONE), although the best system depends on how you will use it and the size of the opening. The folding system gathers the panels away and leaves a panoramic view; the sliding system (RUN) only needs its tracks screwing to the floor; the stacking system (BIG), with no bottom profile, is designed for restaurants and premises with large openings; and the slide-and-fold system (SUB) integrates with the bioclimatic pergola. During the free site visit, in El Puerto de Santa María or anywhere in the province of Cádiz, we'll recommend the system that suits you best.

Do I need permission to install glass curtains on my terrace?

Yes: installing glass curtains on a terrace in Andalusia requires council approval even when there is no building work, usually a declaración responsable (self-declaration) or a minor works licence, depending on each council's bylaws. If you live in a block of flats, Spain's Horizontal Property Act also requires the agreement of three fifths of the owners and of the ownership shares. As they have no vertical frames, the curtains change the façade very little, and we give you the technical description and itemised quote that councils usually ask for. We explain it in our guide to permission for enclosing a terrace in Andalusia (in Spanish).

Can glass curtains withstand the levante wind in Cádiz?

Yes, glass curtains withstand the levante wind if they are sized for how exposed the terrace is. The usual choice is 8 mm tempered glass; for tall openings or façades very exposed to the levante it is worth going up to 10 mm or laminated glass, with good anchoring and a bottom track with drainage for wind-driven rain. With the panels closed, the terrace stays sheltered even when it's blowing hard outside, and before quoting we visit the terrace to assess its exposure. Do glass curtains insulate against cold and noise?

Glass curtains insulate partially: they block wind, rain, dust and much of the street noise, so you can use the terrace on many more days of the year. What they are not is airtight, because there are no vertical frames between the panels. If you want full thermal insulation and an extra room, the alternative is an aluminium enclosure with a thermal break. We compare both options in glass curtains or an aluminium enclosure? (in Spanish).
