Enclosures and pergolas for bar, restaurant and hotel terraces in Cádiz

A terrace sheltered from wind, rain and sun stays full for more months of the year. We help you achieve that without losing the feeling of being outdoors.

In the province of Cádiz, the terrace is the heart of many businesses. The trouble starts with the levante, cool autumn evenings or a spring downpour: the tables empty and your takings suffer.

At Kristall we design and install glass enclosures, bioclimatic pergolas and sun protection built for the heavy daily use of bars, restaurants and hotels: quick to open and close, easy to clean and able to stand up to the coastal climate.

Extend your terrace season

The right enclosure turns a summer terrace into a space you can use almost all year round. When the weather is good, it opens up completely. When the wind picks up or it turns chilly, it closes in minutes and your customers stay in their seats.

  • Shelter from the levante and poniente (east and west) winds.
  • Less dust and sand on the tables.
  • More comfort in winter when combined with patio heaters.
  • You keep the view: glass with no vertical frames is barely noticeable.

BIG stacking glass curtains: a fully open front

For long terrace fronts, the BIG stacking system lets you gather all the panels to one side and leave the opening completely clear. It is the answer when you want the terrace to look as if it has no enclosure at all in summer.

For shorter openings or ones with corners, the folding ONE, sliding RUN and slide-and-fold SUB systems adapt to any floor plan. We use tempered safety glass, which is essential where customers and staff are constantly coming and going.

Bioclimatic pergolas with LED lighting and heaters

A bioclimatic pergola with adjustable louvres gives shade in summer, lets the sun through in winter and closes when it rains. For bars, restaurants and hotels, it is usually fitted with:

  • LED lighting built into the structure for dinner service and evening ambience.
  • Heaters to extend the season.
  • Rain and wind sensors that close or open the louvres automatically.
  • Side enclosures with glass curtains or screen blinds.

Vertical screen awnings and weathertightness

Vertical screen awnings filter the afternoon sun and heat without blocking the view. Running in side tracks, they withstand wind better than a traditional awning. They are an affordable option for the sides of a terrace or to combine with a pergola.

On weathertightness, it is best to be clear: glass curtains protect very well against wind and rain, but they are not an airtight window. If you need a fully enclosed dining room with heating and air conditioning, we will suggest an aluminium enclosure with a thermal break. We will assess this with you during the visit.

Regulations for terraces on public land

If your terrace is on public land, such as the street or pavement, the enclosure or pergola is subject to the municipal terrace bylaw (ordenanza municipal de terrazas) set by each town hall. Each municipality decides whether fixed structures are allowed, which materials and heights are permitted and what authorisation is needed. Always check the current bylaw in your town before commissioning the project.

If your premises are in a residential building, changes to the façade usually also require the agreement of the community of owners (comunidad de propietarios). We advise you on the technical documentation that is usually requested.

Beach bars, seafront promenades and coastal hotels

Areas such as Valdelagrana, La Barrosa, Bajo de Guía and Costa Ballena live off their terraces and take a battering from wind and salt air. For these settings we choose powder-coated aluminium, corrosion-resistant hardware and easy-to-clean systems.

On the beachfront, Spain's coastal regulations (normativa de costas) may also apply, as well as the local rules. Checking the authorisation before installing avoids problems.

Your questions answered

Can I enclose my bar's terrace if it is on public land?

It depends on your town hall's terrace bylaw (ordenanza municipal de terrazas), which sets out whether enclosures or pergolas are allowed and under what conditions. Check it before commissioning the project; we help you with the technical information that is usually requested.

Which enclosure lets me open the terrace up completely in summer?

BIG stacking glass curtains gather all the panels to one side and leave the front clear. Folding systems also fold away completely, taking up only a small space next to the wall.

Can the terrace stay open for business in winter?

Yes, by combining a glass enclosure with a pergola or roof and heaters. You gain a lot of comfort against wind and rain, although it is not an airtight space like an indoor dining room.

Do they stand up to salt air on seafront promenades?

We use powder-coated aluminium and hardware designed for marine environments. Rinsing the profiles and tracks with fresh water regularly makes them last much longer.
