Made-to-measure pergolas

Cutting-edge safety and efficiency

Pergolas are made up of posts supporting horizontal beams and a roof that can be tailored to your preferences: adjustable louvres, fixed panels or a fabric canopy. They can be attached to the house or completely freestanding.

Fixed roofs give permanent cover, ideal for areas that need constant protection, while retractable roofs and bioclimatic louvres give you the flexibility to open or close them to suit the weather and your preferences.

Your questions answered

Which type of pergola is best for my terrace: bioclimatic, fixed or fabric?

The best pergola for a terrace depends on how much control you want over sun and rain: the bioclimatic pergola gives you the most control, the fixed aluminium pergola is more affordable and the fabric pergola is the most minimalist. The bioclimatic pergola has motorised adjustable louvres that control light, shade and ventilation and close when it rains; the fixed pergola gives permanent cover with a panoramic roof; and the fabric pergola folds its canopy back so you can enjoy clear skies. All of them can be attached to the house or freestanding, and during the free site visit anywhere in the province of Cádiz we'll recommend the one that suits you best.

Do bioclimatic pergolas let the rain in?

Bioclimatic pergolas keep the rain out when the louvres are closed: the roof is watertight and rainwater runs along gutters built into the louvres down to the posts. With a rain sensor, the louvres close by themselves as soon as it starts to rain. Only when rain comes with a strong side wind can a little water get in through open sides; to prevent this, the pergola can be enclosed with glass curtains or side awnings.

Can a bioclimatic pergola withstand the levante wind in Cádiz?

Yes, a properly sized and anchored bioclimatic pergola withstands the usual winds on the Cádiz coast; in a strong levante it is best to leave the louvres open, and the wind sensor does this automatically. To protect the sides from the levante, the ideal is to combine it with glass curtains o screen awnings. Always follow the manufacturer's guidance on louvre position in strong winds. Find out more in how to protect your terrace from the levante in Cádiz (in Spanish).

Does a bioclimatic pergola need planning permission?

Yes, a bioclimatic pergola usually needs council approval: at least a notification or declaración responsable (self-declaration) to the council and, in some municipalities, a minor works licence. If the pergola is going on a building, on a penthouse terrace for example, you also need the approval of the residents' association. We advise you on the usual procedure in your municipality and give you the technical description and itemised quote that councils usually ask for. We explain it in our guide to permission for enclosing a terrace in Andalusia (in Spanish).
